The COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the 2020 football season until February of 2021. We will begin meeting as an association soon and making plans for when the season starts up. Check back here often for updates.

NFHS Announces Rule Changes for Football

The NFHS Football Rules committee recently released the rule changes set to go into effect as early as the 2019 season. Those changes include:

  • the 40-Second Play Clock

  • the use of instant replay for playoffs

  • changes to the size of uniform numbers

  • tripping the runner is now illegal

  • change to the "horse collar" rule

  • change in the definition of the line of scrimmage

If you want to read more about the changes now go check out the story on the NFHS site...Football Changes for 2019

Yakima Valley Football Officials’ Association

The YVFOA is looking for fresh recruits to continue to provide a great service to the local football scene in the Yakima Valley. We cover games from Sunnyside to Kittitas to Cle Elum and everywhere in between. Many people love the game of football and what better way to give back to the game than to officiate. Here is what  you can expect by becoming an official:

  • The BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE. there is not better place to be than on the field. Officials are right there in the trenches.

  • Stay connected to the game. If you played in the past, this would give you a chance to stay in the game.

  • NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!!! Training. You don’t have to be an “expert” of the game. We will teach you the rules and the mechanics of being a quality official.

  • Compensation for your time. Between Grid Kid games, junior high and high school sub-varsity games you can earn as much or as little as you want.

Meetings will begin in July but it's never too early to sign up.
